Q. Should I buy a new or used car without looking under the hood and test driving it?
A. If you think the answer is YES then contact me asap as I have a couple junkers I'll sell you cheap.
Q. Isn't 'test driving' what "shareware" is for?
A. Shareware or "trial programs' (rarely fully enabled or functional and usually limited to 10-30 days) are like not looking under the hood, and the salesman/woman lets you drive it around the parking lot... not allowing you to try the wipers, horn, blinkers, air or anything else but driving it briefly. Sheeesh........ in the beginning... it took me 2-3 months just to learn to drive the new car!... especially cars like Flash, PSP and Homesite to name a few.
Q. But isn't Warez illegal?
A. Is sure as hell IS... not only that it can cause many, if not all, of the same problems listed here ...and below!
Q. Isn't using Warez like robbing a bank?
A. For those who refuse to pay their way, yes it is, but for me, it's more akin to taking out an interest free loan for a little more than 30 days.
Q. Are interest free loans illegal?
A. No, they aren't but they ARE rare and difficult to find!
(Most times interest free loans are ONLY available from friends and family.)
Q. So ...in a nutshell, my friend... what IS your stance on warez?
A. Personally, I not only want to drive a car around the block... I want to take it on a fully functional road trip and it dang well better not break down (or freeze up) on the way!
If and when I am satisfied the car is good, I like it, will use it and it's worth the asking price, ..
then and only then will I buy it or else I will give it back to the dealer in the same condition as before I tried it.
I have paid 1000's of $s for software programs I use and at the same time I have saved 1000's on not buying crap!
In 1998 and 99 I lost hundreds of $s on ripoff crap (ie Cool Edit 2000 price:$200) before becoming a warez advocate.. but fortunately I learned early to take software for more than a brief 'test drive'.
(Note: Cool Edit 96 & CE Pro are worth the asking prices)
I highly recommend buying ANY software you like and use and NOT 'stealing' it as too many people do. My main complaint about trial software is that the 'trial' time and functionality is too limited.
The warez I have tried and still use I have paid for... the warez I tried and didn't like I uninstalled,,, saving the install files for other friends and family to try before buying.
CAUTION! SOME WAREZ CAN CONTAIN VIRUSES OR TROJANS AND/OR CAN DAMAGE YOUR COMPUTER!
PLEASE DON'T STEAL SOFTWARE!!!! If everyone did that the programmers would stop making it as there would be no incentive to make it, let alone improve it.
